Welcome to the Legislative Instruments Database (LID)

LID is a database of legislative instrument maintained by the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department in Canberra. LID contains mainly regulations and rules of court as well as a small number of other instruments. LID is not comprehensive. For more comprehensive legislation of the Commonwealth and the non self-governing Territories including related material such as Bills, explanatory memoranda/statements, tables, indexes and other finding aids you should use SCALEplus. SCALEplus also includes compilations of instruments on this database.

LID provides access to images and information about the legislative instruments on this database. The information includes enabling legislation and enabling provision, gazettal and tabling information as well as other information specific to an individual instrument. In addition, searchable text is available for most instruments on LID that were made after 1992.

The information in this database is updated daily. New regulations are generally added on the day of gazettal and most other instruments are added on the day of gazettal or shortly after that day
